Short Biography

Dr. Gömbeyaz was born in Bandırma in 1979. He graduated from Bandırma Imam Hatip High School in 1996 and graduated from Uludağ University Faculty of Theology in 2001. He worked as a secondary school teacher in Şanlıurfa between March and December 2002. In December 2002, he was appointed as a research assistant in the field of History of Islamic Sects at Uludağ University Faculty of Theology. He completed his master's degree in 2005 with his thesis titled "al-Imam al-Ash'ari in the Islamic Heresiography", and his doctorate in 2015 with his thesis titled “Heresiological Classifications of in Islamic Literature”. He has been working as an academic member at Department of Kalam and Faithful Islamic Sects since March 19, 2015, and at the Department of History of Islamic Sects since August 2023 in Kocaeli University Faculty of Theology. He served as Book Review Editor in the journal of Ilahiyat Studies between 2010-2022. His academic interests include Islamic heresiography, Ibadism, and Ottoman religious thought etc. Gömbeyaz, who speaks Arabic and English, is married and has two children.
