The School of Islamic Studies is organizing an event titled “The Activities of Hanafi Imams in the Compilation of Fiqh”. The event, which will be moderated by our faculty member Prof. Dr. Bilal Aybakan and Dr. Okan Kadir Yılmaz (İSAM) will be the speaker, will be held on Monday, December 16 at 20.00 on Zoom.
About the event: The second/eighth century is generally accepted as the initial era of codification for Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh), particularly for the Hanafi school. During this period, Abu Hanifa (d. 150/767) and his students—Abu Yusuf (d. 182/798), al-Shaybani (d. 189/805), and Hasan b. Ziyad (d. 204/819)—appear as the earliest figures to have authored works in the fiqh genre. Their writings played a decisive role in shaping the language, form, and content of fiqh literature as a whole. In particular, the fiqh works of al-Shaybani served both as key sources and exemplars for later Hanafi scholarship as well as for other juridical schools. In this sense, it can be said that the founding imams of the Hanafi school were also the foundational authors of fiqh literature.
