The Final Session of Islamic Studies Talks for this Year Has Been Held
The seventeenth and the final session of Islamic Studies Talks was held under the title “How Will the Jurisprudence of the Future Be Shaped?” with immense interest.

The “Islamic Studies Talks”, a traditional and highly anticipated event series organized by the Faculty of Islamic Sciences at Ibn Haldun University, successfully concluded its academic year with its seventeenth and final session on May 15, 2026.

Throughout the year, the series hosted distinguished scholars from various disciplines, culminating in a grand finale that comprehensively examined the dynamic nature of Islamic law and its transformation in the modern era.

The final conference of the year was held centering around the pivotal question “How Will the Jurisprudence of the Future Be Shaped?” The keynote speaker, Assoc. Prof. Eyyüp Said Kaya from the Faculty of Theology at Istanbul Medeniyet University, delivered a compelling presentation, providing insightful analyses on the historical and methodological strength of jurisprudence (fiqh) and how this legacy can be carried into the future.

Islamic Jurisprudence Facing the Challenges of the Modern Era

In his speech, Assoc. Prof. Eyyüp Said Kaya emphasized that fiqh is not a stagnant, frozen set of rules belonging solely to the past; on the contrary, it possesses a living, breathing structure capable of adapting to the rhythm of life and shifting global dynamics.

The speaker noted that complex modern phenomena such as artificial intelligence, digitalization, biotechnology, and emerging global economic models have initiated a brand-new era for Islamic legal methodology (usūl al-fiqh). Kaya stated that shaping the jurisprudence of the future requires a flexible, inclusive, and interdisciplinary approach, one that remains firmly rooted in its rich classical heritage while fully addressing contemporary realities and necessities.

Immense Interest in the Season-Finale of the Year-Long Series

Attended by the faculty administration, faculty members, students, and numerous researchers from other universities, the conference generated an intellectual vibrancy befitting the grand finale of the series. The event deepened with an engaging Q&A session, providing a highly stimulating platform for evaluating the future vision of Islamic jurisprudence as the academic year drew to a close.
